Bright Data is web data infrastructure: proxy networks, an unblocking API, scraper APIs, datasets and more, sold mostly on usage. It suits teams that collect public web data at scale and want one vendor for access and extraction. It is a poorer fit if you only need a small, one-off scrape, because the pricing has several layers and some products require an identity check before you can use them. How we reviewed it
We read Bright Data’s main pricing page, its residential proxy and Unlocker API pricing pages, and its help docs on the free tier and billing, all on Oct 9, 2026. We pulled ratings from G2 and Trustpilot the same day. In this Bright Data review we did not use Capterra, because we couldn’t load a current page to confirm the numbers. We haven’t tested the products ourselves and we don’t give a numeric score. Promotions and plan sizes change often, so treat every price below as a snapshot and confirm it on Bright Data’s page before you pay.

Free tier and trial credits
Bright Data’s docs describe a recurring free tier of 5,000 credits a month (about $7.50 in value), usable across the Unlocker API, SERP API and Web Scraper API. The docs also describe a one-time $2 trial credit for proxy products and the Browser API, valid for 7 days, plus a $5 bonus when you add a payment method. Adding a card is described as verification only. The Unlocker pricing page says its free tier needs no credit card. The docs add that if you sign up with a personal email and no payment method, access to the proxy networks and the Unlocker API can be restricted. Moving to a committed plan ends the recurring monthly free credits.
Catches to know before you pay
- Identity checks for some proxies. Bright Data says a representative will ask you to complete a KYC process, which may include a short video call, before you use residential or mobile networks. The Unlocker API does not require it, per the same FAQ.
- Bandwidth counts both ways. Bright Data says billed bandwidth includes request headers, request data, response headers and response data.
- Committed plans don’t roll over. If you take a monthly plan, unused commitment doesn’t carry into the next month, and billing runs on the 1st.
- Accounts can suspend when the balance runs out. Bright Data recommends turning on auto-recharge, and lets you set daily spend limits per zone. Those limits are checked every 15 minutes, so a zone can run slightly over.
- Promos change. The 50% residential discount is time-limited and may not be there when you read this.
Bright Data review: what reviewers say
On G2, Bright Data shows 4.7 out of 5 across 346 reviews. On Trustpilot it shows 4.4 out of 5 across 1,025 reviews, with about 85% of ratings at five stars and about 9% at one star. Praise centers on support that responds quickly and on getting past blocks. Complaints we saw repeated in recent Trustpilot reviews include a first-line AI support bot, slow replies from account managers, and frustration with the onboarding and compliance process. A few reviewers also dispute what they received on ISP proxies. These are individual opinions, not our findings, and Trustpilot says it doesn’t fact-check them.

Do I need a credit card to start?
The Unlocker pricing page says the free tier needs no card. The docs say personal-email signups without a payment method can have restricted access to proxy networks and the Unlocker API, and that adding a method is verification only and earns a $5 bonus credit.
Is there a minimum monthly commitment?
Not on pay-as-you-go. Bright Data’s FAQ says you can buy proxies without a monthly commitment, and the Unlocker page offers pay-as-you-go. Monthly plans exist if you want a lower rate at steady volume.
What is KYC and who has to do it?

If your need is small or one-off, start with a simpler tool and come back when volume justifies it.
